An open PR puts the author in a bad state

An open PR leaves the author neither finished nor fully free.

They can wait for review, which is idle time. Or they can pick up something else, which means context-switching while the unresolved PR stays alive in the back of their mind. If review feedback lands later, they pay the switchback cost. If more work lands in the meantime, the queue grows.

Both outcomes are worse than getting the review done quickly.

The team responsibility

Part of being on a team is keeping each other in a good working state. That means removing blockages, reducing needless context switches, and not leaving people suspended between "done" and "not done."

This is not only kindness. It is throughput. A team that keeps authors waiting while reviewers start new work is optimising local activity over system flow.

Practical habit

Before picking up a new ticket, ask whether someone is sitting in review because of you, or because you could help. If yes, start there.
