The sprint is the shared unit of work
The sprint is the shared unit of work
The useful unit is not "my ticket." It is the sprint as a shared body of work that the team moves to the finish line together.
Sometimes the right move is pushing the ticket in front of you. Sometimes it is unblocking the teammate closest to done. The job is to move the whole system forward.
If only one part of the machine is operating efficiently while the rest is stalled, the machine is not efficient.
The trap
Engineers often finish a slice and immediately reach for the next one. That feels responsible because it maximises personal motion. But personal motion is not team delivery.
A teammate's PR in review is usually closer to customer value than your next ticket. Helping that PR cross the line can matter more than starting fresh work.
